Training Breakdown
Day 1 8 – Hour Class Room Instruction/ Final Exam
Day 2 6 – Hour Range /Qualification (LIVE FIRE)
DAY #1, APS staff will train you in the basic fundamentals of your handgun. The classroom session deals with the Moral and Legal Aspects of Firearms, and Firearm nomenclature and Maintenance. In addition, we will cover weapons inspection, cleaning and maintenance of a revolver and semi automatic.

DAY #2, The APS staff will patiently train you in the manipulating your handgun. APS will ensure that you will have the confidence you need when handling your weapon. Our staff will train the most recent NRA gun handling tactics offered. We at APS, believe our clients must have the confidence when lethal force is your option as a Security Officer. This session will cover the following:
- Weapon Handling & shooting Fundamentals (Live fire)
- Loading & Unloading Procedures (Revolver, Semi-automatic)
- Proper Shooting Positions
- Grip/Draw
- Sight Alignment
- Breathe Control
After extensive analysis of the laws and regulations, the Bureau has determined that the only
legal pathway to add a caliber to an existing firearms permit under current Bureau law and
regulations is for the permit holder to complete the course of training in the carrying and use of a
firearm required to obtain an initial firearm permit, as prescribed by, Title 16, Division 7, Section
635 of the California Code of Regulations. Specifically:
- Completion of at least 8 hours of classroom instruction on the carrying and use of a firearm,
- Passing a Bureau-approved written firearm exam with a minimum score of 85%, and
- Discharging 50 rounds a minimum of two (2) times, one (1) round for practice and one (1) round for score.
